The controversy

Removing Marketplace review

Framer 3.0 removed the Marketplace’s manual template-review system. It’s the controversial one: of the posts that took a side, roughly 3 in 4 were against.

The case against

Critics say dropping review opens the floodgates — hundreds of templates went live within hours (130+ in five hours, 600+ in a day) and they expect a wave of AI-generated, copied, and low-effort templates. The core worry is trust: manual review was the quality guarantee that made Framer templates feel premium, and buyers can no longer tell if a template…

The case for

Supporters argue the curated review was slow, a bottleneck, and “already broken” (in their view 95% of approved templates were mediocre anyway). Let the market and ratings judge: opening publishing levels the playing field so newcomers can win on merit and distribution instead of tenure, manual review never scales to thousands of submissions…

Against

Framer just quietly ended the template business as you know it. When I started there were maybe 1k @framer templates on the whole marketplace, and with a quality product the hardest part was just getting approved.

I will not create any more @framer templates. I just don’t have the energy to compete in a marketplace that will be saturated with templates that don’t require any review. Back to normal full time job hunt 💃

My honest thoughts on the @framer Marketplace changes. It's still very early. It only just launched and things will naturally unfold over the coming weeks. But the shift is drastic, and I think it's worth talking about.

A massive flood of poor-quality @framer website templates is on the way. No quality checks.. No metrics.. I'm extremely curious how the @framer team will ensure that high-quality products are maintained in the marketplace.

I think the new changes to the @framer Marketplace will be a win. Here’s why. I’ve been selling templates on marketplaces for over 10 years (ThemeForest, Creative Market).

IMO the @framer review process being removed is a footnote in the community update. The marketplace already hit critical mass ages ago. Insane review times, tons of low effort stuff getting approved anyway.

framer marketplace has zero gatekeeping right now next couple weeks we'll see a flood of templates and components. then it'll slow down. quality always wins in the end, it just takes time.

Framer Market for everyone with no queues! Probably the best news from @framer for template creators! But I'm curious how a new client will now be able to be sure when remixing that they're getting a properly created template…

Why they love it

Designers call it “git for design”: a safe sandbox to let AI or teammates make big edits, compare versions, and merge only when ready. Frequently called the most slept-on or even best part of 3.0, praised for its CRDT foundation, and welcomed for not being enterprise-only.

The pushback

The few complaints center on plan gating — branching not being on free / legacy Mini plans — plus a handful of worries about merges breaking once agents touch shared tokens or CMS schema.

Hoy hemos lanzado Framer 3.0 y, la verdad, no podría estar más emocionado! 🚀 Llevamos meses volcados en construir un agente experto en diseño, un compañero, que cambia por completo la forma de usar Framer.

Branching might be the most slept-on part of this @framer update. Before, I had to publish every change at once and tiptoe around anything risky. One of the biggest problems holding back my client builds is just… gone now.

Framer 3.0 Agents, Branching, Community — all W's. But removing the review system? Worst decision. One week without it = thousands of low-effort templates flood the marketplace. Quality loses. Quantity wins.

A hit

Agents

Agents drew overwhelmingly positive reaction — roughly 85% of opinions were positive, amplified by a 24-hour hackathon.

85%

Why they love it

The launch hackathon flooded X with people building games, tools, 3D scenes, and full sites in hours. Praise focuses on canvas-native agents that handle grunt work (CMS, SEO, responsiveness, components), external-agent connections (Claude, Cursor, Codex), and the “designer directs, AI executes” framing.

The pushback

Negatives concentrate on credit/token burn and pricing — e.g. “3,172 credits for one hero section,” “1,000 credits in two messages,” and Pro’s ~3,000 credits/month feeling like minutes of real work — plus some concern that agents make it trivial to mass-produce slop templates.

ya you can explore, design, and build sites with agents in @framer 3.0… but you know what I'm most happy about? I just one-shotted the relational db I've been wanting to build for years 🥹 having agents span every inch…

Am I the only one feeling like @framer agents are basically a demo? I used it for about 5 minutes and hit the cap just by reviewing a component. They pitch it as the new way to build in Framer, but there is no real builder plan.
